Michael Stack is the founder & CEO of Applied Fitness Solutions and Frontline Fitness Pros. He is a faculty lecturer for the University of Michigan’s School of Kinesiology. He is also the creator and the host of the Wellness Paradox Podcast, produced in conjunction with the University of Michigan.
Michael is an exercise physiologist by training and a health entrepreneur, health educator, and fitness industry advocate by trade. He is dedicated to enhancing the standard of practice of, and advocating for, fitness and wellness professionals to ensure they become an essential constituent in the healthcare delivery system.
With a career spanning over three decades in fitness, health, and wellness, Michael has a deep knowledge of exercise physiology, health/wellness coaching, lifestyle interventions to mitigate chronic disease and leadership. He is credentialed through the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) as an Exercise Physiologist (ACSM-EP), Exercise Medicine practitioner (ASCM-EIM), and a Physical Activity in Public Health Specialist (ACSM-PAPHS). Michael is a National Strength & Conditioning Association (NSCA) Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist (CSCS), and a CDC Diabetes Prevention Program (DPP) Lifestyle Coach.
Michael received his undergraduate degree from the University of Michigan’s School of Kinesiology in 2004 and is currently a Master of Public Health (MPH) candidate at the University of Michigan, with a specific concentration in health behavior and health education.
Michael is a board of directors member for the Physical Activity Alliance and Michigan Fitness Clubs Association. He is the vice chair of the University of Michigan’s School of Kinesiology Alumni Board of Governors. Michael is an expert curriculum reviewer for the American College of Lifestyle Medicine. Finally, he is a member of the executive leadership team for American Heart Association’s Heart Walk.
Michael lectures nationally for several health/fitness certification and continuing education organizations, including; ACSM, IHRSA, the Medical Fitness Association, the National Strength & Conditioning Association, and SCW Fitness.
Tony Moreno PhD is a Professor of Kinesiology at Eastern Michigan University and is currently serving his second term on the Michigan Governor’s Council of Physical Fitness, Health, and Sports. With a diverse background in movement science and biomechanics, he has collaborated with and developed a wide variety of educational materials for a number of organizations including the Michigan High School Athletic Association, USA Lacrosse, USA Ultimate, USA Hockey, the Society of Health and Physical Educators, and the National Strength and Conditioning Association. As a longtime advocate for positive physical and mental health and well-being, he has presented regionally, nationally, and internationally on issues and topics related to the implementation and promotion of physical literacy, quality physical education, physical activity throughout the lifespan, and holistic youth sport participation and athlete development. Prior to his career in academia, he worked extensively in the health and fitness industry as a fitness trainer, manager, operations director, and ultimately as a gym owner.
Deb is the Executive Director of SHAPE-Michigan. She began her teaching career in Wetzel County, WV, following graduation from Slippery Rock State University in 1976. An elementary physical education teacher and a high school coach, she became a strong advocate for physical education through her efforts as a teacher, coach, official, and, later, a university professor and administrator. She completed a Masters and a Doctorate at West Virginia University and accepted a position at Western Michigan University in 1985.
Deb was a dedicated teacher educator at WMU, incorporating best practice, applied research, technology, and advocacy in applied settings across her career. Her work with teachers and students was grounded in practical application. She was instrumental in the development of the online graduate pedagogy program at Western Michigan University. Deb also served as the Chair of the Health, Physical Education and Recreation Department from 1994-2007. Deb served on Department, college, and University curriculum committees. She retired in June 2018 after 33 years of service.
Nichole joined mParks in September 2023. Nichole graduated from Central Michigan University with a Bachelor of Applied Arts degree. Nichole has over 23 years of experience in association/nonprofit management and parks and recreation. Nichole brings experience and a proven track record of success, which is invaluable in meeting mParks goals and initiatives. She strongly advocates parks and recreation, has extensive experience managing in-house and remote teams, and has created and accomplished organizational strategic plans and goals. Nichole has a professional executive presence and can communicate effectively with stakeholders, including mParks members and staff, vendors, partner organizations, and policymakers.
Dr. Pfeiffer is a Professor in the Department of Kinesiology at Michigan State University (MSU) and a fellow of both ACSM and the National Academy of Kinesiology (NAK). In the summer of 2022 she became the Director of the Institute for the Study of Youth Sports.
Dr. Pfeiffer has been studying physical activity and health-related fitness in children and youth for the past 25+ years. Her main areas of expertise are in
measurement of physical activity and interventions to increase physical activity in children and adolescents. She has over 200 research publications and has worked on several NIH- and foundation-funded research projects. She completed a term as Vice President of the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) in June of 2022 and currently serves as President-Elect for the International Society for the Measurement of Physical Behaviour. She also serves on the Leadership Board of the National Youth Sports Health and Safety Institute and is Chair-Elect of the National Physical Activity Plan. She is a past president of the North American Society for Pediatric Exercise Medicine and the Midwest regional chapter of ACSM and was a Trustee of national ACSM. She also served twice on the Science Board of the President’s Council for Sports, Fitness, and Nutrition.
Ashley Bradshaw is the Physical Activity Coordinator for the Michigan Department of Health and Human services. With a background in developing, coordinating, and implementing comprehensive policy, systems, and environmental change strategies, Ashley focuses on ensuring that Michigan residents have access to safe, affordable, and accessible opportunities for physical activity.
A golf ball sized cerebelo-pontine meningioma brain tumor ended Eric Galvez’s physical therapy career almost 2 years after starting it in San Diego, CA. He has established a new career in patient advocacy by creating two unique nonprofit organizations. “mAss Kickers Foundation” which promoted a proactive oncology patient lifestyle through international patient centered presentations at hospitals, cancer support groups, healthcare education schools/programs, and medical systems. It was dissolved due to the travel restrictions of the global COVID pandemic. The second nonprofit organization, the “Disability Guerrillas” promotes exercise for people with physical disabilities through patient advocates, healthcare professionals, fitness professionals. He has also published 2 books about: 1) his unique experiences as a young physical therapist turned young neuro-oncology patient and 2) his experiences as an oncology patient with severe physical impairments turned nonprofit executive. He currently serves as: 1) the Membership and Communications Chair for APTA ONCOLOGY Balance and Falls SIG and 2) Community liaison for the APTA MICHIGAN Oncology Rehabilitation SIG. He is looking forward to strengthening the relationships APTA MI and the MI Moves Coalition.
